What is your desire?

Reading portion: Esther ch 5:6

“And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.”

In our life all of us have some desires and most of them are materialistic desires to possess wealth, honour etc.  We should   not only have materialistic desires but also spiritual desires. If we seek great things we might end up in difficult situations (Jer ch 45:5)

  • Esther: When King Ahasuerus asked Esther her desire, she asked for the freedom of the          people of Israel (Esther ch 7:3). She could have asked for many things. The king was ready to give her even half of the kingdom (Esther ch 7:2), but she desired the freedom of the people of Jews. Esther along with the Jews fasted and prayer for their release. Do we have such a concern for the people of God? There are many people in this world who are in the darkness. Do we have the desire in us to bring them to light and add their souls to the Kingdom of God?

 ·         Solomon:  When God asked his desires, he asked for wisdom and knowledge to judge God’s people (II Chronicles ch 1: 7  to 12). Along with wisdom and knowledge God gave Solomon riches, wealth and honour. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you  (Mathew ch 6:33). Do we have the same desire as that of Solomon to have knowledge and wisdom to serve God and His people?

 ·         Sons of Korah: The sons of Korah desired to be in the presence of God at all times. As the deer panteth for waters they were thirsty to seek God ( Psalms 42:1). They were ready to be a door keeper in the house of God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness (Psalms 84:10). How much do we desire to come to the presence of God?

 ·          David: His desire was to dwell in the house of the Lord all his life and to meditate on the word. He wanted to see the beauty of the Lord (Psalms 27:4) Do we have such a desire?

We should delight our self in the LORD; and He shall give us the desires of our heart. Commit our self unto the LORD, trust also in him, and He shall bring it to pass (Psalms 37:4 &5).
