“Do not be afraid”

Reading Portion: Luke ch 1: 13
Fear started in the Garden of Eden which can be seen in Genesis ch 3:10. The sense of sin within us makes us afraid. The basic fear, which we have, is of death. The phrase “Do not be afraid “can be seen seven times in gospel according to Luke.
  • Luke ch 1: 13:  Zacharias is afraid when his prayer is not answered. Many a times we too are afraid when our prayers are not answered. But then we read here in this verse not be fearful and our prayers will be answered at the right time.
  • Luke ch 1:28 to 30:  Mary is blessed and recognized through Jesus the son. We too are blessed and have been given the privilege to be called the children of God (John1:12) through Jesus Christ the son.
  • Luke ch 2: 8 to 10: The shepherds were privileged to get the news of the birth of Jesus. We who were dead in trespasses and sins were considered worthy to become the children of God and the great mystery was revealed to us. We were given the privilege to go before him to the holiest of holy places. Thank God for choosing us.
  • Luke ch 5: 10:  Peter is seen making excuses in vs 5 when Jesus asked him to launch his net. But then, when he gets a net full of fish he comes to Jesus and confesses before him in vs 8. We too make excuses, when our Lord asks us to do something. But we should submit & confess ourselves to Him so that we can be made useful to Him.
  • Luke ch 8: 50:  Jairus’s faith saved his daughter. It’s only because of our unfaithfulness that we have fear in us. Just be faithful and we don’t have to be afraid.
  • Luke ch 12: 7:  Here we see our Lord’s concern and care for us. When we have such a God we don’t have to fear.
  •  Luke ch 12: 32: We are a small flock. When God is our shepherd why do we have to fear.
