In
fact, the word often translated “inspired”
in the Bible literally means “God-breathed”.
The NIV translates it as such: “All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training
in righteousness” (II Timothy 3:16). The
fact that the Bible is inspired by God is
all the reason we need to consider it
important. Jesus said, “Man shall not live
by bread alone but by every word that
proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew
4:4). When
God breathes and we inhale or believe,
wonderful things happen. When we are angry
with someone, the Bible taught us to forgive
people even if we are angry with them.
God
wants us to live beyond our natural
capacities. We might be so angry with
someone that all I can think about is
revenge. But God says, “Vengeance is mine,
I will repay” (Hebrews 10:30). Leave
retribution1 to God. He knows people’s
thoughts and deepest motivations. We don’t.
Let God be God, and forgive even when we are
sure someone has wronged you. Only
the Bible assures us that God’s justice
will prevail in the end. The next time you’re
wronged, refuse to retaliate, and instead,
put all in God’s hands. The power of
believing this one truth from the Bible
could change your friendship, your
life! Whenever
you are tempted to do something wrong, you
quote verses you memorised from God’s
Word. You have good company, Jesus used the
same strategy of quoting Scripture when the
devil tempted him in the desert. Every child
of God is in a spiritual war to do what is
good and not to do what is wrong. Memorising
the Scripture and reading the Bible is
similar to a soldier training for combat. Don’t
wait until you’re in the midst of a battle
to prepare. A soldier would be foolish to go
into battle without part of his equipment.
The Apostle Paul said, “Put on the whole
armour of God … And take … the sword of
the Spirit, which is the Word of God”
(Ephesians 6:11,17). At times when you are scared or in trouble, God’s word makes you feel better. You remember “God is always with me”. Memory plays a key role in receiving comfort from God’s promises. You can’t receive comfort from Bible promises you don’t know. So are you going to live by God’s revelation or by what seems good to you? 1= revenge |

The subject of water supply and sewage disposal are today considered to be of extreme importance for public health and prevention of disease. Moses, however thousands of years ago, was using the principles of bacteriology. He forbade the drinking of water from small or stagnant pools or water contaminated by coming in contact with animals or meat (Lev 11:29-36). Directions for disposal of sanitary sewage by burial (Deuteronomy 23:12-14) and regulations containing personal hygiene were far ahead of practices even in the civilized countries until the past century. Indeed "the eyes of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon him that hope in his mercy; to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine" (Psalm 33:18-19).
